We’ve had the great pleasure to serve you in your neighborhood for your local roofing needs. You also know we’re a company that prides itself on great service and ethics. We know there are many local roofing companies for you to choose from, so when homeowners choose Good Shepherd Roofing, it is both a great honor and very humbling.

If you’ve worked with our company you also know how enthusiastic and upbeat every member of our team is. We’re proud to be doing what we’re doing, in fact, we love it, and we like to bring that energy, enthusiasm, and excitement to each customer interaction.

Having said all of that, this post is not meant to be negative or pessimistic it is simply a post that I thought was important for every homeowner to know regardless if they choose to work with Good Shepherd Roofing.

Recently, we began the process of a roof replacement for a homeowner in a neighborhood in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Before we could complete the process, we were politely informed that the homeowner had chosen to go with another vendor for their roofing needs. We tried to investigate a bit more because we pride ourselves on keeping our customers happy and hopefully making them such a believer that they sing our praises to their friends and family.

What we learned was that the other “vendor” that the homeowner chose to go with had offered a completely “FREE” roof! WOW… I love free stuff, in fact the idea of anything free is pretty darn good. I think most people would agree FREE is awesome! However, let’s examine this a bit further like your Dad or Mother probably told you… nothing in life is FREE.

Very simply put, if your roofing contractor is offering you a FREE roof, they’re not only doing something illegal they are also implicating you in their fraudulent practices. When these contractors offer you a so-called FREE roof what they’re really saying is that your insurance premium doesn’t need to be paid. Roofing companies that have to resort to these types of lowly practices give every legitimate vendor out a bad name.

Here are a couple things to think about next time you get offered something “FREE”.

  1. If they’re willing to break the law to get your business what do you think the quality of their work is?
  2. Will this roofing contractor be around in ten years when you have an issue with the roof?
  3. In order to give you a “FREE” roof what didn’t they include in their services and materials on your job. (As an example – ice & water shield helps ensure the integrity of your roof but is expensive & contractors that are giving away free roofs definitely aren’t worried about the quality … they’re looking for the quick hit. )
  4. If the roof does experience issues after install and you have to invest money in additional repairs or worse a second roof replacement who do you think has to pay for it?

(HINT: It’s not the insurance company, remember the law has already been broken so now
you’re on the hook – whether you knew what was happening or not)

This quick post is not meant to spark fear and it’s also not meant to bash any other roofing contractors out there. However, if you’re in the market for a roof do yourself a favor and take the time to research the roofing company. There are some great local roofing contractors in the Gwinnett County area, so take your time and find the right one and think not only about the current but also future implications of your roofing replacement decisions.
